The next walk will be the rearranged Pen y Fan hike in the Brecon Beacons, which is the highest peak at 886m but we start half way up. The twin summits of Pen y Fan and Corn Du were referred to as King Arthur's Seat. On a clear day you'll see Cardigan Bay, Carmarthen Bay, Swansea Bay, the Gower Peninsula, the Black Mountains, Exmoor and much of Mid Wales and the South Wales Valleys. Below is a panorama from last years hike. This was taken from the sister peak of Corn Du and Pen y Fan is on the right. Click on it for a larger view!

On thursday, we set out for our first night hike of the year. The walk took in the sea front, Clyne Gardens and Clyne Common before circling back to the University. The weather managed to surprise everyone by throwing buckets of hailstones at us after we left the coast. It was mostly cloudy and moonlit after that and we got some nice views of the lights towards Mumbles and around Swansea Bay. There were plenty of horses around too! The mud and bog made it hard going so we rather sensibly gave up on our route and headed for the warmth. We still managed a highly respectable 7 miles before finishing by 11pm. Well done to all, walking in the dark is a lot harder than during the day (although there are lots of pretty lights to look at!) Click on the images for larger versions.
The next social will be a bonfire on the beach on Monday 5th November. We'll be making up a nice big fire and sitting on the beach with a great view of the st Helens firework display. We'll be meeting at fulton house about 6:30, and then we'll be walking down to our location before setting up. Bring your friends and flatmates, everyone's welcome! Bring food or whatever you might want to consume during the night - we'll have a small barbecue and will be happy to cook for you!
For more information, please checkout our website here or our facebook page here. We also have a Twitter account here.
Pickups for day hikes are: 9am Uplands (outside Sainsburys), 9:05am Student Village (at the bus stop on the main road, opposite Carvery) and 9:15am outside Fulton House. Please remember to bring the hiking basics of food, drink, waterproof jacket, warm layers etc on all day hikes. We aim to return to Swansea by 7-8pm.
