The next hike will be a free hike (yay) to the Gower walking from the uni, it will be a great chance to see the scenic beaches around Swansea, and if anyone is able to find me (Kate) some crabs I would be very happy indeed. We will be meeting outside Fulton house at 9. This hike is open to non-members so bring everyone you know along. As we're not taking a bus, there are no student village/uplands meeting points this week. The photos below show some of the scenes you have to look forward to! Click on them for a larger view.

At the end of November, we have our second weekend away of the year. This time, our adventures take us to Dartmoor. We'll be leaving on Friday, November 30th and returning on Sunday, 2nd December. We start signing up for the weekend away this week, so come along to JCs to put your name (and deposit money) down! The deposit is £10, and the final cost should be £35. When we went to Dartmoor last time (in 2010) there was lots of snow. This is unlikely to happen, but the pretty rock formations will still be there! The scenic bits from the film Warhorse was filmed in Dartmoor...Click on the photos for enlarged views.

On sunday, we ventured to the Brecon Beacons for one of the hardest walks on our calender. Walking almost directly in a west-east direction, we summited Corn Du (873m), Pen y Fan (886m), Cribyn (795m) and Fan y Big (719m) before ending in Talybont-on-Usk. This was along a ridge, so not down to sea-level and back! Although there wasn't a view from Pen y Fan, we were inundated with them afterwards! The sunshine and cloud combination really made for some pretty, changing views. The panorama below shows the view while the hiking club was having lunch. The group is on the right of the photo, next to the path. At this point, we're between Pen y Fan and Cribyn is looming in the background. We did the last stretch in the dark, under torchlight, before spending some time in the pub; next to an open fire! A well deserved rest after a 12 mile (19.3km) walk with lots of up and down.
If anyone would like a club hoodie we will be taking money and orders next week at sign ups. The upcoming social will be next week, more details to follow. Most likely LaserZone.
