We are having a meal today (sorry for the short notice) at the George pub in Mumbles. We will be meeting at Fulton House at 6.45 pm. We will be either be walking up or take taxis depending on the weather
The hike this week will be to the Usk reservoir on Saturday, so meet at Uplands at 9 am, Student village at 9.05am and Fulton at 9.15am. Please bring appropriate clothes and shoes and lunch as it is a full days hike. Please come to JCs sign up on friday at 12.30-1.30pm to put your name down. This walk is located in the Brecon Beacons and should be drowning in wildlife (Red Kites etc) while also offering views in all directions (Pen y Fan, Bannau Sir Gaer...). The reservoir is located in one of the remotest parts of the Beacons and is surrounded by moorland and forestry. On the walk, we shall explore both as the hike takes in a circumnavigation of the reservoir.

Last weekend, we had our first official hike of 2013. As part of Give it a Go week, this was a free hike to the Gower. We started at Pennard Cliffs and walked back to Mumbles, with a quick detour to admire Three Cliffs Bay. The day will be remembered for offering a decent amount of sunshine, a splattering of rain sprinkled with hail and thunder with lashings of wind. The rain earlier in the week had made the footpath a little muddier than normal, but only for the first few miles. It got a lot better after that!
We made good time, and spent our lunch break at Caswell Beach before heading on to the pub in Mumbles. Quite a few of us managed an ice cream along the way! The distance walked (to Mumbles) was 10 miles (16km), with 418m ascent and 472m descent.
Also sign up for the weekend away to the Rhinogs in mid Wales. There will be deposit of £10 and then the price of the whole weekend will be about £30 but this is yet to be confirmed. Being in Snowdonia National Park, the terrain is rocky and also home to a healthy population of wild goats. The Rhinogs aren't as high as Snowdon, being under 720m in height, but they provide excellent views. The photo below was taken from Cader Idris, which is typically on the Sunday walk.
