NEXT WALK - Pen Allt Mawr - Saturday, Febrary 16th

Signup for this walk this week. This hike is in the Brecon Beacons and not only gives plentiful views, but it has also been a snowy walk on the last three times it has been run! Hopefully this run of luck will continue! The photos below are from two of these walks.

Upcoming Social Event - Annual General Meeting and Free Food - ALL WELCOME

The next social will be next TUESDAY, Feb 19th and includes eating lots of FREE CAKES etc. It will be the Annual General Meeting where all the committee is replaced (bar international reps). If you'd like to contribute in keeping the club running and choosing hiking locations, then please come along. What weekends away would you do?? Please come along even if you don't stand.

The following positions are up for grabs. The old committee will always be available to guide you in your new role if you're worried you won't have enough experience.

• Chairperson
  The Boss of the show. Being Chairperson, you are responsible for everything, including the 'overseeing' of each committee member to make sure they're doing their job, liasing with Sport Swansea and also looking after the club itself and making tea for the Vice-Chair! It is (strongly) recommended that committee experience is required to stand for this position
• Vice-Chairperson
  Obviously the best position of the club! Being the Vice-Chair, you are required to organise the transport for the walks. Also, the Vice-Chair looks after the club kit and all the many maps hopefully bringing the correct one to each walk! Sometimes, the Vice-Chair would hold the meetings if the Chairperson is unavailable or late coming back from the chippy
• Treasurer
  Being in this position doesn't mean you can spend the money in the pub. Looking after the club's money and financial situation is an important role. And you would have to spend the money wisely on kit and the bookings of hostels and such!
• Secretary
  Being the secretary, you would have to write down the minutes so that the club has a (rather entertaining) record of what's been going on! You would also have to book accommodation for weekends away.
• Social Secretary
  Being in this position, you are to create our social calendar and organise events and socials around Swansea and Wind Street. Also the Christmas Ball is a big event to pull off!
• Publicity
  This role is to let everyone know what's happening via emails about socials and walks and other stuff involving the club!
• Webmaster
  You'd have to update our site and upload photos of our walks and socials for the World (or Swansea, for that matter) to see! The ones in the know will go over all the technical stuff with you if you don't know how to switch on the computer!

Last Hike's Recap

Our first weekend away of the new year found 10 of us in North Wales for a spot of hiking. On the saturday, the low cloud meant that views weren't the primary attraction of the walk! Instead, the highlight was coming across a family of wild goats, with two very new kids. They were probably only a few days old and didn't quite know what to make of us!

On the Sunday, we left our extremely warm accommodation after another hearty cooked breakfast and headed for the base of Cader Idris. The weather meant that the plan to walk up to the peak was abandoned, and we headed to the lake at the base of the peak instead. We still got to wander in the snow though!

Pickups for day hikes are: 9am Uplands (outside Sainsburys), 9:05am Student Village (at the bus stop on the main road, opposite Carvery) and 9:15am outside Fulton House. Please remember to bring the hiking basics of food, drink, waterproof jacket, warm layers etc on all day hikes. We aim to return to Swansea by 7-8pm.

We have walk sign-ups every Wednesday and Friday 12:30-1:30pm on the Coffee side of JCs. Come along and join us, they're also perfect for mini-socials!
